DAY 1 | Agkistri
Agistri Greece belongs to the Saronic group of islands, along with Poros, Aegina, Spetses, and Hydra. Its relatively close distance to these islands makes it a perfect base for island hopping between the Saronic islands.
Thanks to its extraordinary natural setting and the mesmerizing Agistri beaches, Agistri island is a popular destination for Athenians. You can find Agistri hotels, restaurants, taverns, and organized beaches. Moving from Skala, one of the islands’ ports you’ll come across the best Agistri beaches, Aponissos and Dragonera. With a backdrop of lush nature, they offer the perfect ambiance for relaxing days at the beach! The small island of Agistri is known for its crystal beaches, small villages, and green nature.
DAY 2 | Epidaurus
Palaia Epidavros, a small settlement of 1900 inhabitants, is located on the peninsula of the Peloponnese, between the Argolic and the Saronic Gulf, only 30 NM from the Alimos marina in Athens. Epidaurus was mainly a religious centre characterized by the worship of Asklepios, the God of healing and son of Apollo.
It was also the most important Peloponnesian port of the Peloponnese Gulf, and a good part of the population devoted themselves to a life at sea rather than farming. However, they also had many duties related to the marine function and maintenance, as well as the sanctuaries of Asklepios and Apollo Maleatas. Nowadays, the ruins of all these places are still open to visitors. Also worth mentioning is the ancient theatre, situated in the small valley where the temple of Asklepios is situated.
DAY 3 | Poros
Poros is a little island in the heart of the Saronic Gulf, close to Aegina and Agistri. Thanks to its proximity to Athens -just 1-a one hour ferry ride from the port of Piraeus – it is a popular destination, especially for weekend getaways.
Perched on the hillside overlooking the vast Aegean sea and the nearby Galatas, Poros town is the centre of the island’s activity. What’s more, in the picturesque Poros town, you’ll find a great selection of hotels, shops, cafes, restaurants, and taverns!
DAY 4 | Ermioni
Picturesque and fertile, Ermioni in Greece is a small seaside town on the eastern coast of the Peloponnese, in the Argolis region. Constructed on the hill slopes around a beautiful port, this town has revived over the last decades as many Athenians have holiday homes there. The traditional architecture and the natural beauty of Ermioni attracts many families looking for peaceful vacations.
The port promenade is a relaxing place to stroll around and enjoy a meal of local delicacies during your sailing holiday.
This small seaside town is a perfect family destination. Its location serves as a good base for sightseeing excursions in the region as many beautiful places and sights are just a short sail away.
DAY 5 | Spetses
In ancient times the island was named “Pityonissos” and “Pityousa” from the ancient Greek word “Pitys”, meaning pine tree. The name “Spetses” came from the Venetians who called it “Isola di Spezie” meaning the island of aromas (spices).
Spetses is both cursed and blessed by its assets; being so pretty and accessible has made it increasingly popular. Cruel winds rarely buffet it, and every midday in summer a refreshing cool breeze arrives. Although it has to import water, bougainvillea, hibiscus, plumbago, jasmine and trumpet vines thrive in the mild climate, spangling white walls with pink, mauve, red, baby blue and orange petals. Handsome mansions dominate the seafront between the Old Harbour and Dapia, where sea taxis huddle under cannons left from the War of Independence. The island is ideal for total relaxation at the beach or in the countryside and swimming in the wonderfully secluded beaches of Spetses is delightful.
DAY 6 | Porto Heli
Located on the eastern side of the Peloponnese, Porto Heli is a small seaside town with a large port. The port is a frequent mooring place for fishing boats and yachts in summer, giving Porto Heli a cosmopolitan atmosphere. There are a couple of organized beaches in Porto Heli, but the majority are small secluded coves with a relaxing atmosphere.
Porto Heli is built around a picturesque natural harbour in the prefecture of Argolida, Peloponnese. The harbour is very safe and usually has enough space for your charter yacht to moor.
DAY 7 | Nafplio
Nafplion is among the most beautiful towns on mainland Greece. Only 2 hours drive from Athens, Nafplion town has an intense Mediaeval atmosphere.
A walk around the narrow-paved streets of the Old Town is like a trip into the past. At the top of a hill above Nafplion, there is the strong fortress of Palamidi with amazing views to the sea. At the entrance of the port, there is a small islet with a fortress that used to protect the town from naval attacks. Nafplion is a popular sailing destination all year round.
DAY 8 | Monemvasia
The Castle Town of Monemvasia is among the most impressive places in Greece. Located on the south eastern side of the Peloponnese, Monemvasia was entirely carved into the rear side of a massive rock in the sea in Mediaeval times. This huge rock is not visible from the mainland, so that the locals could avoid enemy attacks.
The only way to reach Monemvasia was by boat, but later a paved pathway was constructed to connect the castle entrance to the mainland. This is how it acquired its name, which means – single passage. A new town has been constructed on the mainland, just opposite the rock. A walk around the Castle Town is a journey into the past, while the sea view from the top of the castle is breathtaking.
DAY 9 | Elafonissos
The tiny island of Elafonissos is located on the southern side of the Peloponnese, just below the peninsula of Laconia. Most famous for its exotic waters, Elafonissos is the Caribbean of Greece. Simos, Sarakiniko and Panagia are the most beautiful beaches, with golden sand and pure water. It is the perfect place to sail and stay a while at anchor in these stunning blue waters. The most popular beach is Simos, which is distinguishable by its crystal water and exotic surroundings. However, the entire island boasts fantastic places to visit with exotic waters to swim in.
DAY 10 | Kythira
Kythira is a beautiful island located on the southern side of the Peloponnese. Although Kythira island belongs to the Ionian islands group, it lies far from the rest of its Ionian neighbours, so it is rather secluded.
The island’s architecture is strongly influenced by the Venetians, who ruled the island during the Mediaeval age. On a hill above Chora, there’s a Mediaeval castle, a vestige of the Venetian era, which boasts an incredible view of the Aegean Sea. It is the best spot for gazing at the spectacular sunsets!
The most touristy places in Kythira are Kapsali, Agia, Pelagia, Avlemonas, and Diakofti. A drive around the island will take you to wonderful Kythira beaches, picturesque monasteries, and even ghostly villages, like the abandoned town of Paleochora.
Kythira will raise your spirits!
DAY 11| Hydra
The island took the name “Hydra” due to the abundant freshwater springs of ancient times when the island was called “Hydrea” from the ancient Greek word for “water”.
Hydra, one of the most cosmopolitan Greek islands, is in the heart of the Argo Saronic Gulf. One of the main reasons Hydra is a popular destination is its proximity to Athens, as a ferry from Athens, will get you to this beautiful island in just 2 hours. It’s the perfect option for a quick getaway!
On Hydra island, you won’t see any cars! Everyone travels on foot, by boat or donkey to get around. The ban on cars, along with the elegant stone mansions of the island, create a charming atmosphere and make the island one of the most serene destinations near Athens.
DAY 12 | Aegina
Aegina is an idyllic island very close to Athens, thus a very popular destination for quick getaways. Belonging to the Saronic group of islands, Aegina Greece has many archaeological monuments, picturesque villages, and beautiful beaches.
Aegina is also an island with a glorious historical past, being one of the most important islands of ancient Greece, so it’s not a surprise that sightseeing is one of the best things to do in Aegina! The most impressive archaeological site of the island is the Ancient Temple of Athena Aphaia, dating back to the 6th century BC.
Situated at the centre of the island is Aegina Town, the picturesque capital of Aegina. Boasting elegant neoclassical buildings, narrow alleys and a bustling seafront promenade, Aegina Town is perfect for summer strolls.
