1. Bonifacio
We start our long weekend on your luxury yacht, embarking in Bonifacio on the southern tip of Corsica. You may want to explore the cobbled streets of the city, its imposing 13th century Bastion de L’Etendard and climb the King of Aragon staircase with its 187 steps carved into the cliff, before we set sail. Once settled onboard we head North along the West coast to reach some of the quiet bays and beautiful beaches in the region. Many of these are uncrowded even in mid-Summer, so it is easy to find a quiet bay to swim or relax in peace. In the evening enjoy your own private banquet on board your superyacht, prepared by your personal chef.
2. Campomoro
We stay in the Gulf of Valinco with its scattered, quaint villages, and stop at the beach at Campomoro, where you will be struck how peaceful it is! Lying at the end of a small, grass-covered road on the Gulf of Valinco, it has kept its original charm. There are no large buildings, just a beautiful beach with clear water and mountains rising steeply behind. If you like to hike then look for the Genovese watchtower, which marks the start of a wonderful trail that winds along a carefully preserved 15 km of coastline with fine sandy coves and rock formations. If you prefer to admire the coves from onboard- there is much to see for lovers of snorkelling and scuba diving.
At the end of the day we head for Propriano, the main town in the region with its lively port and many restaurants, bars and clubs on the waterfront, where you can sample the local delicacies. Along the shores though, there are countless hidden coves should you choose to dine onboard.
3. Ajaccio
Leaving early to make the most of the day, we make our way to Iles Sanguinaires, in one of the most beautiful gulfs of the Mediterranean and close to the charming Ajaccio. There is plenty of time to enjoy the islands which are a designated reserve for sea birds and other wildlife. It boasts a diverse habitat with many plants not found on the Corsican mainland. At the southern end of the archipelago we can see the tower which dates back to 1608, built during the Genoese occupation of Corsica. Finally it is time to enjoy a cocktail and the superb cuisine offered by your personal chef, as we enjoy the spellbinding blood red sunset that gives the islands their name.
4. Calvi
Some say Calvi is the Corsican port most like the French Riviera, with restaurants running along the harbour on the Quai Landry promenade. Surrounded by the citadel’s cobbled streets, high on the hill above the bay, you can see the baroque Chapel of Notre-Dame de la Serra which offers spectacular panoramic views of the area. On the south side of the bay, is a long crescent shaped sandy beach which offers shallow swimming, water sports and beautiful views back towards the town. There is a wealth of scuba diving sites in the area where you can swim with lionfish, rays and schools of colourful fish sparkling in the sunlight. If you prefer to stay above the surface then this is an ideal area to use your water toys or practise wind or kite surfing.
In the evening you can enjoy Michelin star dining in one of the local restaurants or dine on board your luxury yacht, relax and enjoy your personal space.
5. Girolata
We set off to the Gulf of Girolata and the Scandola Nature Reserve part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will be struck by the beauty and colours of the cliffs, coves and arches that make the area an artist’s paradise. The diverse scenery offers glimpses of eagles and falcons swooping down to pluck fish from the sea, which is a haven for copious marine life. The jagged cliffs offer up little grottoes and beaches to explore along the way and if you are feeling energetic you can simply take to the sea for your own underwater adventure in the sapphire water.
6. Capicciolo
Heading South along a coastline bordered by red granite cliffs that plunge into an intensely blue sea, the Gulf of Porto is also well deserving of its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We arrive at Capicciolo, with its golden beach in a nature reserve offering a beautiful setting with dense vegetation on the beachfront. As it is not well known, it is quiet even during the summer season. Nearby is the Calanca Cove below the tower of the same name, and it is here that you will find some of Corsica’s best scuba diving sites suitable for all abilities. Keen divers may want to check out the wreck at Pointe de l’Omu.
7. Lavezzi
On our final day we head back to Bonifacio and with a fair wind can make a final stop at the Lavezzi Islands just east of Bonifacio. These islands are a nature reserve featuring stunning rock formations, reefs and beaches- perfect for a final swim before heading home.
