1. Olbia
We start our long weekend on your luxury yacht, embarking in Olbia, northeast Sardinia. You may want to explore the city with its medieval San Simplicio Basilica, or enjoy a typical Italian coffee in one of their many piazzas. History lovers may take the opportunity to visit the Museo Archeologico with its ancient Roman warships or venture to the scenic Nuraghe Riu Mulinu which is an archaeological complex with spectacular views of the Gulf of Olbia and protected marine reserve of Tavolara. In the evening you can settle in on your superyacht to enjoy the special cuisine of your personal chef then stroll into town for a late drink at one of the laid-back bars.
2 & 3. Costa Smeralda
Olbia gives access to the exclusive Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) with its turquoise coves and beautiful islands and famed for its natural harbour featuring in the James Bond film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. We set off early to reach the archipelago of La Maddalena, the first National Park of Sardinia, and an area of unique natural beauty. There are so many stunning places to moor in the archipelago of La Maddalena, which is full of mystery and myths. The myriad beaches are characterised by their clear waters, and with more than 60 islands to choose from you are guaranteed to enjoy your diving and snorkelling – in some of the best places in the whole of the Mediterranean.
4. Stintino
We head off early to reach Stintino, a small fishing town in north-west Sardinia, and the neighbouring National Park of Asinara. Bleached sand beaches and rocky coast connect the many quaint villages and it is hikers paradise if you prefer to enjoy the natural environment on dry land. The many towers along the route, tell tales from ancient history with the Torre della Pelosa the main attraction. Bird lovers will enjoy visiting the peaceful Cape Falcone which is a natural haven for peregrine falcons and nearby is La Pelosa, a relatively quiet ,long, white sand beach with a calm bay where you can swim in the Mediterranean’s warm waters. The town offers superb dining with seafood specialities including octopus, lobster, shellfish and urchins, alongside other typical Italian fare.
The proximity to the uninhabited Asinara Island offers the perfect opportunity to explore this stunning nature and marine reserve with its many trails and shimmering coastline, boasting inlets of clear blue water.
5. Santa Teresa di Gallura
Next we head North to the tip of Sardinia and Santa Teresa Gallura, a small, authentic and colourful Sardinian village. With its beautiful, natural harbour it is a far cry from some of the more developed harbours on the island. At the same time this is an historic and lively town with chic bars and impressive array of restaurants offering the local seafood delicacies. This area boasts many blue flag beaches which are within easy reach of the town. Head for Capo Testa if you are eager to try kitesurfing or diving, and on dry land there is the opportunity to trek along the scenic coastline.
6. Porto Cervo
Heading south along the ‘emerald’ Costa Smerelda to the chic Porto Cervo, which boasts rock star and royalty as its guests, we can moor in the marina, which sits in a picturesque harbour alongside the exclusive Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. This is superyacht heaven, hosting famous regattas and World Series events and where you can see some of the largest luxury yachts in the world. Here we can choose to anchor in the bay or disembark to take advantage of the vibrant nightlife and elite shops.
Porto Cervo village is also worthy of a visit, with its famously eco-friendly design, and if there is time we can make our way to view the Stella Maris church with its surprising architectural style. The picturesque beach at Pevero is famous for its clear turquoise waters, so if you prefer a more relaxing afternoon, then we can make our way to this safe and pristine bathing spot.
7. Porto Rotondo and Portisco
We are spoilt for choice as we head back to Olbia, stopping either at Porto Rotondo or Portisco for a lasting memory of the chic or the quaint. In Porto Rotondo your superyacht will moor in the stylish marina, offering a view of the impressive celebrity mansions and access to luxurious shops and restaurants. Yet this area also boasts fine sand beaches, so you really can have the best of both worlds! Portisco on the other hand is an idyllic and quaint village with a reputation for magical beauty and unique culture. The white sand beach of Portisco offers safe swimming especially suitable for inexperienced swimmers, or you can enjoy the best snorkelling off the Petra Ruja beach not far away.
