A winning combination: Sicilian Art and delicious Food by the Sea
This year our BR1 Fleet Show in Palermo was designed to enhance the luxury yacht broker experience while in Palermo, Sicily. They were able to sample the delights of a gastronomic contest and access a display of contemporary artists’ works on board the luxury yachts. Discover in this article the winning combination between Sicilian Art and delicious Food by the Sea.
The gastronomic contest of cocktails and finger food was held on board luxury yacht charters, sailing boats and catamarans. Seven chefs competed, with our visiting international brokers as jurors. The initiative, which took place at the Marina di Villa Igiea in Palermo port, was organized by the Yacht Management company BR1 Ltd of Malta and West Coast International, a globally recognized luxury yacht charter company.
On the podium, the chef of Yacht SOULMATE – Eduard Alcantara with hostess Irina Ivaneanu were awarded third place. Ahead of him in second place was the chef of Sailing Yacht TESS – Giovanni Romano together with the steward/deckhand Francesco Busalacchi. First place was awarded to Sailing Yacht MY LOTTY with chef Stefania Tagliavia with the steward/deckhand Josè Florentino.
At the BR1 Fleet Show there were seven boats in total, and as many chefs: MY LOTTY with Stefania Tagliavia, TESS with Giovanni Romano, SOULMATE with Eduard Lora Alcantara, BLUE DESTINY with Martina La Lumia, MALIZIA with Laura Guarneri, DIDYMOS with Massimiliano Provenzano, and ARIA with Irene Pezzer. It was a fun experience for the brokers to get to know the crew and the services offered and managed by the BR1.
The visit by the luxury yacht brokers also provided an opportunity to explore fascinating Palermo with its beautiful architecture and multicultural history. Learn more about Sicily’s past, and all that its coast and nearby Egadi Islands have to offer.
Timed to coincide with their visit, was an exhibition of artists on board the seven boats entitled YAG Island Tales. “We decided to focus on Sicily, the island at the centre of the Mare Nostrum, where all the beauties and contradictions of this geographical and mental space meet and mix. Hence the works exhibited on board are a selection of some of today’s greatest Sicilian artists. They are artists of different generations and use the most varied artistic languages. Not all of them were born in Sicily, and this also demonstrates how the island is still a great international centre of experimentation for art”, said the exhibition’s curator.
The yachts became an exhibition area, in which medium and small paintings and sculptures were set up in the saloons and cabins: a traveling art gallery, capable of becoming wind and current, for an entire summer around the Mediterranean. The dream for its second edition in 2024 is to arrive in Venice during the Biennale of contemporary art.
To be sure – fair winds, good food and contemporary art will keep you company, ensuring a luxury yacht experience to remember.
