Meet TESS Chef: Giovanni Romano
Born in Palermo in 1990, Giovanni has travelled extensively around Europe both on the yachts but also visiting many countries on his holidays. He especially loves to sail around the coast of Greece.
Giovanni trained at culinary college learning not only professional cooking skills but other hospitality roles such as hotel concierge. As well as being a tennis instructor in the past, he also did an internship at the esteemed Villa Igiea in the Port of Palermo. Giovanni is now both an excellent chef and a deckhand on board Tess when required, with additional certificates in Powerboats, Safety and Security. He is also a competent English speaker.
Giovanni has worked for BR1 and West Coast International for eight seasons in total and still loves his work on the sea and the marine environment generally. His grandfather was a chef, so it’s in the genes, it was he who taught him all about Sicilian cuisine especially fish dishes as he was growing up. Giovanni also loves cooking Pasta dishes. Curiously, he says, the culinary skill seems to have skipped a generation as his parents are less interested in cooking.
Giovanni is grateful for the opportunity to be a Chef on board TESS, and says he enjoys the challenge when he has to think quickly to adapt to changes in circumstances. While he likes to welcome friendly guests, and appreciates their invitations to spend time with them, he prefers to focus on his cooking to ensure he is well prepared for providing the best cuisine.
About Sailing Yacht TESS:
TESS, formerly known as Speedy Go, was built in France by the MAG shipyard in 1986. Her exterior is the splendid handiwork of Martin Francis, a well-known naval architect who has given life to very important mega yachts such as motor yacht “A”.
Her sailing performance is by virtue of her Sloop navigation system, equipped with a mast and a sail surface of over 800 square metres. She’s a very fast sailing yacht!
Her typical reminder of the wonderful 80s exterior design is the perfect place to rest and enjoy the sun while remaining in close to the sea.
Being a flush deck, the superstructure is practically absent, except for a few centimetres in the central part of the boat. In fact, all the light inside is owed to 12 skylights located in the common areas and the guest cabins. The yacht has 8 sun loungers that can be easily folded away keeping the deck uncluttered.
The dinette is very stylish, consisting of a table with double sofas, aperitif area with low table and TV. This area is characterized by the specific design choices made during the last refit which took place in 2019. The floor is a monoblock of brick Linoleum, the wallpaper has a wicker-like texture and the beautiful Artemide vintage lamps are a stand out feature on the walls.
The yacht can comfortably accommodate 8 people in its 4 cabins: the master with double bed and side sofa. Two mirrored triples, each with a French bed, a single and a bunk third bed. A fourth cabin is located aft of the dinette, with a queen size bed. All cabins have private bathrooms.
